about

this explores the "mind-body" problem: reconciling conscious experience with the physical systems that it depends upon / VERY WORDY

lyrics

There's a common axiom many minds have found that a human's just a spirit physically pinned down in a body as a vessel for a boundless soul, but the feeling and the form have symbiotic control. / It makes no sense to characterize souls as something individualized separate from their bodies. Every moment since conception variables I can't even mention have been forever changing my life's underlying equations. / But people, please, don't reduce yourselves to the close cooperation of some carbon based cells. / You can paint a pretty picture with a scientific brush but never clarify the way it feels inside to blush. That's consciousness: phenomenal, ephemeral, unteachable. Your moments of experience will always be unreachable by any explanations as to 'why' or 'how', 'cause the truth of your existence is what you're feeling right now. / The stuff I'm made of's been around as long as time. So the matter I inherit and bequeath was in fact never really mine. And we're all just animating stardust tonight settled in to objects, but, I swear, we're all suffused in light. / So people, please, don't reduce yourselves to the close cooperation of some carbon based cells. / Once upon a time in the Milky Way galaxy a star called Sun had an awful lot of gravity and spun a rock into a sphere of staggering complexity where endless forms of life and nature flirt with possibility. / It's maddening to try and wrap your head around the ridiculously complicated yet profound daisy chain of causes and effects that lead back to the ground you'll reunite with soon 'cause nobody stays in this town. / People please don't reduce yourselves to the close cooperation of some carbon based cells. Oh, people, please, don't reduce yourselves or your sisters or your brothers to the synergistic wonders of cells.
